Meet the 104-year-old great grandmother:

It is a medium more usually associated with attention-seeking celebrities such as Peaches Geldof, Demi Moore and Lily Allen.

But Twitter has found a new devotee with a growing fanbase - in the figure of a 104-year-old great-grandmother.

Ivy Bean, from Bradford, has gathered more than 55,000 followers on the social networking website, with radio presenter Chris Evans and TV personality Calum Best said to be fans.

And Ivy may also be able to add another two names to the roll call of dedicated high profile figures - the Prime Minister and his wife.

The former housekeeper was invited by Gordon Brown to 10 Downing Street for a VIP event yesterday organised to 'celebrate our ageing society'.

Ivy, who lives at the Hillside Manor care home in Bradford, made what is said to have been her first ever trip to the capital in style - in a Bentley. And, of course, she Twittered about the event, posting photos from her encounter with Prime Minister, Brown.

Ivy wrote: 'Hello every one i had a lovely time at Downing Street yesterday, i really enjoyed it, it was a long ride but it was worth it.

'gordon brown was really nice, he spoke very nice to me, the place was beautiful inside.'

She cheekily added: 'i used the prime ministers private toilet in his study too.'

And in reply to a follower's question, she quipped: 'I dont know if Gordon usually leaves the toilet seat up but it was down when i sat on it.'

Despite the Tweeterer's apparent composure at meeting the Browns, there is one fan who is guaranteed to have her reaching for the keyboard - Peter Andre, who Ivy met last year.
